The pyramids and other royal tombs were built by Egyptian conscript and contract laborers as confirmed by DNA analysis of the bones from the workers' village at Dier el Madina. Because royal tombs of any sort were sacred to the living god of the Pharaoh, slaves, criminals and non-believers would be unlikely labor sources.
