13. Where did the board game Chinese Checkers originate?

Based on a game called Halma, invented in 1883 by a Boston professor, Dr. George Howard Monks (1853-1933). The first version was published in Germany, and then published in the United States in 1885. 'Halma' is the Greek word for 'jump.'

Chinese Checkers is a variant of Halma -- the only difference being that it is played on a six-pointed game board with 2 to 6 players. It was first published and patented by the German game company 'Ravensburger', and was called Stern-Halma ('stern' is German for 'star') in 1892.
