1. How long did the Hundred Years War last?
From 1337-1453 an aggressive English monarchy sought complete control over France. The French were naturally opposed. It was during this conflict in 1430 that a French peasant girl, Joan of Arc, rose to prominence leading the French army. Her career came to a fiery end when the English burnt her at the stake on a trumped-up charge of heresy.
