Candles

Roman Candle Clocks

We make time pieces of multi-colored wax sections, in 8 ($8), 10 ($10) and 12 ($12) sections. Each section burns approxiatemately 90 minutes and is marked off in gilded Roman numerals. Candles come in several color combinations of red, blue, green and white. Let us know if you have a preference. Most are scented, but all are made from standard parafin. No beeswax is used to avoid allergy issues.

We also sell the earliest known "alarm clock" -- a candle of double sized sections. The alarm clock ($16) includes the candle, a pin and plate, sticking putty and instructions.

Caution: Do not leave any candle burning openly and unshielded inside a tent. Our candles may be used inside a tall jar to protect the flame from wind and the surroundings from fire.

Also, if you absolutely have to be somewhere on time, trust your modern chronometer and not a candle. Our timepieces are meant as props or for "show and tell." A candle's accuracy is relative, affected by many conditions such as the size of the candle, wind conditions and exposure.

Alarm clock candles. A heated metal pin is pressed into the wax. When the candle burns down, the pin falls onto the metal plate, wakening the sleeper -- assuming he is a light sleeper. Also, there is no "snooze" button.
